Sound Mirrors

by Unicorn1

Following on from the shots of the big sound mirror near Dungeness, these are all three mirrors at the site.

From left to right, the 200' curved mirror, the 20' dish and the 30' dish.

All built in the 1930's to listen for approaching aircraft, each of the mirrors had microphones which could be moved around the dish, in the case of the curved mirror and the 30' dish this was done by men in a control room behind / under the structures.

An education and a pleasure !
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
