You don't see this every day !

Just as we finished our walk back at Mapledurham Lock and were about to head home I was stopped in my tracks by something strange coming upstream.
It turned out to be a new bridge, for the drainage channel just above Mapledurham Lock.
What you can't see in this view is that the mariner is actually controlling a small tug behind the bridge which is pushing the pontoon carrying the bridge. Just after this he had to steer it carefully through the lock with just around a foot clearance either side.
They were able to transport the bridge this way as it is a new type of plastic construction, already used elsewhere in the World but this is the first in the UK.
