Gothic Tower

by AxelLuther

Most pictures of the dome in Cologne show the entire church - I thought this crop makes it a bit clearer, how big it is. Btw-I gave this church the title "most photographer-unfriendly church of Europe" - I was not allowed to shot with tripod inside - when asking three times why, I heard what I exected: we don't want, that you have any finacial profit with pictures from our church. What an attitude - if I sell pictures and not gave any money to the owner of this church or if I don't sell, they won't get any money anyway - so they think, if we don't get something, you also should not get something - a philosophy from the medieval (and as I learned now - without any legal base - as soon as they allow to shoot photos in a public space, they have to allow both - with or without tripod)

Great atmopsheric shot,in my mind it creates a feeling how how big this place is....The dak clouds against the blackened brickwork seem to work happily together here.... well framed and captured image
All the best

When I was there they were cleaning the cathedral, it seems that they have finished it. It's really a huge building. What amazed me was the car park just underneath the cathedral, under that massive weight. Good shot, as always.

Excellent shot Axel, the detail on the stonework is amazing. A pity about the inside shots, would have been nice to see some. Although I worked for a German company, (based in the UK), but travelled regularly to Germany, regretfully I never got to Cologne.

Hi Paul - I managed one shot (before a guy in a strange red uniform contacted me) from an aisle which I can upload in one of the net days. Actually (even if people from Cologne will kill me for this statement) - the dome is not the nicest gothic building I have seen in Germany - it is amazingly high but churches like the one in Freiburg are nicer (very subjetive opinion )

I took a few photos of the Freiburg cathedral last summer but the constant rain made me rather reluctant to point the camera upwards.
In this shot I like the way that it looks like you have used a gigantic flash to illuminate the building!
