Bowl

Photo Information
As a whitewater kayaker, the myriad motions of moving water fascinates me. This standing wave with it's chiaroscuro ambience caught me attention as I wandered up-river. Some molecules of water escaping towards the distant coast, some tumbling back up stream time and time again, clusters bouncing high in an aerated dance. Recurrence of in-flow, molecular cohesion, divergence and variance all at play in this riverine amphitheatre.

Thank very much indeed Bill I could spend a lifetime happily exploring rivers and their features Very lucky to have so many whitewater rivers and brooks nearby!

Wonderfully isolated selection of water - well-spotted and foreseen (if that makes sense!)

Thanks very much Andy I seem to have a strong in-built radar for spotting standing waves The big ones are great fun for kayakers and canoeists to surf upon (facing upstream) and very hypnotic to observe

I don't know what's best, the image or the description of it!

Both are fabulous, I too am fascinated by moving water and this shot encapsulates that fascination.

and that's exactly what I was thinking: photographer, artist, poet all rolled into one.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Thanks very much indeed David for your generous comments on this photograph 😊 I really enjoyed making this intimate study of this wave, plus trying to to find the narrative to describe how I felt about. My knowledge of physics and the dynamics of waves made it no less enchanting. Studying the motion of water in an excited state leads to further questions, into the realm of metaphysics. As the great natural world author Nan Shepherd concluded about white-water "it does nothing, absolutely nothing but be itself"
