Autumn's fire

by morpheus71

"Now Autumn's fire burns slowly along the woods
and day by day the dead leaves fall and melt."

[William Allingham (1824 - 1889)]

The setting sun's light reflected on the autumnal River Dart, at Holne Bridge on Dartmoor.

Holne Bridge is a Grade II listed medieval bridge. It is on the road between Ashburton and Two Bridges, and connects Holne Chase to Ausewell.

The bridge is constructed of local granite and has four arches, three of which are semi-circular, the other segmental. It was rebuilt in 1413. The two central pillars have cutwaters on both sides; these extend up to road level and provide triangular refuges for pedestrians.

Thanks very much Andy for your generous comment It was an unexpected delight to see the ruddy light, as it had been rather overcast for most of the afternoon

Had to wait for the odd car to pass over the bridge and kayakers to pass under it between the 6 frames
