Tornado at Darlington

by davidtrout

I make no excuse for posting yet another photo of Tornado which I firmly believe to be the finest of all the big main line steam locomotives at work in Britain today. Here its starting up a heavy charter train - 'The Talisman' - from Darlington station, on its way to London's kings Cross. Dimly behind Tornado in the gloom of the station you can see a class 60 diesel loco which was used to assist Tornado re position its train at Darlington after it arrived earlier in the day.

Definitely needs no excuse. Charming, well-positioned subject with equally good technical handling. Like.

What a gorgeous image David, so much to see. I love the guy on the left with the red coat on and also the way the Diesel engine fades into the background on the right of the shot. It should be POTW I think?

Name headboards just don't work on modern traction but put one on the front of a steam locomotive and the magic just goes up a few more notches.
