A technical doubt. When one has a 55-300 lens is it necessary to have 50-200 lens. is there a huge difference between the two.

I don't own a 55-300 and never will, but if I did, I'd keep the 50-200 because it's so small and light, little bigger than a standard zoom.
Best wishes,

Andrew

I've got both, .. I think the first technical difference is the focal length extend . But, as for "quality" difference, .. for sure there is one. 50-200 is exceptional at f11/80 mm and close around; .. but its sharpness recedes fast beyond 100 mm, while 55-300 is very effective lens whatever focal length. Just keep aperture f11 and narrower as you go up in fl. I think, with 55-300 you can do almost everything with quite satisfying result.

Andrew: thanks
Senn: i dont think the 55-300 is that much better, yes at 300m f8 versus 200 mm f8(50-200 LENS)but not generally otherwise, and its slower to focus than my 50-200, especially in burst mode

Nice family portrait Danny. I can't comment on the 55-300 vs 50-200 as I only have the 55-300, but I can say it's a great lens and sharp at all focal lengths. I've taken a lot at 300mm and they almost always turn out great (as long as my technique doesn't introduce the dreaded shake).

Don't have a lens wide enough to shoot all mine!
