A local Essex Wildlife Trust nature reserve by the Thames Estuary. A massive reclaimed landfill site which has been allowed to grow for several years as mainly grassland and some scrub. Best place in Essex for Skylarks as well!

Indeed John. I worked near Beckton Gas Works in the late 60's early 70's and often saw them on that derelict site. They were common on the old bomb sites before they were cleared. I understand there is still a breeding stronghold opposite the docklands on the South side of the river between Greenwich and Waterloo. Maybe these came down the River from there.
