Gannet & Chick

by cedricd

Taken on first real outing with the K20 D at Bempton cliffs.Perched on a nest 18" across 400 feet above the sea with a wingspan of 6 feet Gannet chicks live a precarious life. This one stretched out one wing, had a good few flaps then all change for a careful turn around and flap the other.

You would not believe how close to the edge these birds live! this parent bird obviously stays at home while the other is out fishing.

Nice shot, it could be the light but the parents head seems a little dull.

Dave, I agree with what you say regarding the dull appearance of the adult`s head, however it prints out as a glorious golden colour so my guess is it is the view on PU which altered things.
