Childhood Joy

by Rhoufi

This little child stood off from the "statue busker" in Bourke Street Mall, not daring to approach but completely fascinated. Then with slow movements the statue beckoned her forward. Slowly, hesitantly, almost fearfully, the little girl approached, a most serious expression on her face. The statue reached out, the little girl reach out in return, and slowly they touched, gently and gracefully, just the ends of their fingers. Then as if by magic the little girl's face erupted into the widest most joyful smile. The statue held her hand and the little girl moved in close. They communicated in total silence for about 10 minutes while the little girl refused to give up the hand of the statue - all the time with that same look of of total joy and wonder on her face.

I was so honoured to be able to capture that moment.

Good photo - better words.

It's nice to hear words of encouragement for the statues. They move so infrequently that their hourly rate is abysmal at best. Let's hope their Union gets behind them and rallies the government for a better deal. At least the kid looks happy.

@SteveEveritt
Thanks Steve. I just uploaded a photo from 30 secs prior to this moment, but it won't appear until the Quarterly Competition is judged. It shows the moment of the touch that I described in the words.

@sam-joseph
I like your sense of humour sam; I often llok at these statue buskers and wonder how they can do it. This lady is particularly good, she speaks with only expressions and always has a crowd around her.

@nonur
Thanks nonour, a nice bright sunny day in Melbourne often has pretty intense light.
