Towanroath Dawn

Photo Information
Early morning twilight at the iconic Towanroath Engine House in the Wheal Coates tin mining area, nr Chapel Porth, Cornwall.

‘Wheal’ is Cornish for ‘place of work’, not 'mine' as is often stated. The term for 'mine' is 'bal'. The mine opened in 1802 and was worked until its closure in 1889. Towanroath Pumping Engine House (1872) was used to pump water from the adjacent 600 ft Towanroath shaft.

Thanks very much Donna 😊 The cold and windy weather was rewarding for it's atmospheric hues and seeing the moon in the scene made me smile 😊 Worth the early start to the day

Its a fascinating image Phil, full of Cornish atmosphere and it reminds me of a back ground to a Poldark drama.
