Actually, David, racing cars tend to track a predictable course (unless driven by Felipe Massa), so you can get into a settled rhythm when taking pan shots, for instance, and focus manually to stop the AF hunting out trees etc. Wildlife offers few such luxuries (although robins often approach the camera, which helps).
