Touch

by Rhoufi

This little child stood off from the "statue busker" in Bourke Street Mall, not daring to approach but completely fascinated. Then with slow movements the statue beckoned her forward. Slowly, hesitantly, almost fearfully, the little girl approached, this most serious expression on her face. The statue reached out, the little girl reach out in return, and slowly they touched, gently and gracefully, just the ends of their fingers. Then as if by magic the little girl's face erupted into the widest most joyful smile. The statue held her hand and the little girl moved in close. They communicated in total silence for about 10 minutes while the little girl refused to give up the hand of the statue - all the time with that same look of of total joy and wonder on her face.
