Yes it is, Tim. Powered by water and gravity. Saves a long steep walk up to Lynton. You can see the railway in this picture.

I like the angle and the shot, and I've found the railway so steep and therefore so interesting and amazed to know that the system is "powered by water and gravity".

Nezih, the two parallel cars are joined by a cable. The cars have a large tank underneath. The top car is filled with water while the bottom one is emptied. The top on drags the bottom one up. nienteenth century perpetual motion!

Brilliant and so simple! Thank you, Andrew, for the explanation and for the good intention. I'd love to go there. Hope that we can do it sooner than I can imagine now, but I'm waiting for you to come first.
