Bleak, desolate, like it a lot... particularly like the framing of the branches against the cloud...

Really excellent Andrew, the transient storm light and skeletal tree are first rate

I've been longing to capture this scene for years but we usually fly past on the way to Woody Bay where my son has to light the fire in a steam engine, but yesterday we had time to spare, so we stopped and the weather was perfect!
Best wishes,

Andrew

Lovely lines in the landscape Andrew. I really like the way the tree cuts through, thus ties together, the three tonal bands; the field, the light area of sky and the dark sky. Also the diagonal line of the stone wall, bottom left, is mirrored by the diagonal line of the darkest part of sky.

As with so many amateur landscapes, David, it's 10% inspiration and 90% pure luck, being in the right place at the right time, oh, and with the right lens. I'm convinced that any DSLR will do, providing one doesn't want to paper a whole wall with the results!
Best wishes,

Andrew

Is more than 90% pure luck Andrew. While getting the composition exactly right may not always be carefully thought out or the result of an intellectual process it does stem from instinct born of experience.

Well that's true as well. After a while you find yourself seeing decent compositions even when there's no camera to hand!
Best wishes,

Andrew
