Black Veined White Butterfly

by darkskies

Actually been extinct in Britain since the 1920's, I was lucky enough to find this in the part of our garden we call "the nature reserve" today.

I hope to get some more photos when it's less breezy.

Beautiful shot. I've been outside nearly all day today and I have not seen a single butterfly.

nice capture, .., but I felt it a bit overexpo, .. seemingly some precious details of right wing and flower have been lost

I've got plenty of other bugs in the garden though! Seen some today I've never seen before in my life

Rather too much contrast with the white flower. But no clipped highlights. It's a compromise of having to lose the detail with the flower, which isn't very important, and having the butterfly well exposed.

But I will have a check and see if I can just tone it down a bit......and report back!

And I'll be taking some more if I find it again, and any mates.

Taking on board what senn said, I had another look. I have slightly toned down the patch on the right wing, but it really is a patch with no detail. next time I'll find a better specimen of this rare butterfly! I've also toned down the cow parlsey a touch, and this has brought out slightly more detail in the petals that are in focus. So, thanks senn! Here's the very slightly changed version.
