Boxkite

Photo Information
This particular aircraft is one of three replicas built in 1964 of the Boxkite (later known as Bristol Biplane) for use in the film "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines".

The first Boxkites were built and delivered in 1910 by the British and Colonial Aeroplane Company which later became the Bristol Aeroplane Company. A total of 78 were built in total and were used as trainers some being exported.

In the UK they were flown from Larkhill and Brooklands by Bristol Flying Schools.

This picture was taken recently at Old Warden...home of the Shuttleworth Collection.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, it must have seemed like the 'space age' had arrived back in 1910, and those first pioneer pilots with no one to train them must have been very brave.
