You have focussed on a point very close to the lens (I don't know exactly how far you were away from the first poppy but it looks close to me). I would have a search for hyperfocal distance for instance, here if you want to know more about the technical side of depth of field.
If you focus at the hyperfocal distance for the lens/aperture/camera combination, you maximise the depth of field. You have focussed in front of the hyperfocal distance and so still have quite a small depth of field despite the small aperture. If you had focussed at the hyper focal distance (somewhere around 5m/15ft looking at the table in the link), you could possibly have got the distant castle in focus as well as the front poppy.
Having said all that, having the shallow depth of field makes this photo and I would be very pleased to have taken it. Nice one.
