'Sanctuary of Autumn'
Whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth."
[Herman Hesse]
Looking along Leigh Tor, across the tree canopies of Park Wood & Holne Chase and on towards Auswell Woods and Buckland Common. The River Dart flows in it's 'Loop' from below here - a section of whitewater rapids, much regarded by kayakers & canoeists.
Leigh Tor is a dyke-like body of quartz-veined tourmalinised hornfels, up to about 10m wide. It is a Regionally Important Geological (RIG) site.

It was ever changing light and beguiling with it, though relaxed as I was, I had to be aware though of my surroundings.
I was on a very narrow ledge a metre below the knife edged ridge, just enough room for the tripod legs, me to lean a hip on the slab of rock and half of my back foot resting on fresh air. The chance of losing camera gear or tumbling backwards into the woods far below (the drop was 15 metres on the valley side of the dyke!) was very real.

Think the confidence that comes from a lifetime passion for rock climbing came in handy on this occasion.

That's a really lovely shot of the moor - the colours in the sunlight are really warm and you've got a good sky ! I can well imagine the drop from those rocks - fearsome stuff !
Thanks ever so much for your generous and encouraging comments Blaze
