'Head over Keels'

Photo Information
Around the North Northumbrian coast old herring boat hulls have been upturned and converted into sheds.
They are a favourite subject for local artists and pictures like this can be seen in all the art shops and galleries.

These 2 were spotted on Lindisfarne, so after developing the RAW file in PSE11 I gave the image a light makeover in Perfect Effects 9 to try to simulate a watercolour painting.

beautifully observed!
Salient is the impact of the Vikings! Avaldsnes; Norway, the museum complex is a Viking village, built from the "old" ships, turned "the head" !!!

What an awesome idea and a wonderful photo. From the angle to post processing, just enough to give it great detail and a dreamy feel without going overboard. Amazing job!

Great shot of unusual constructions. I love the rough environment.

Great shot, Peter. I'd love to see (and photograph these constructions.)
Best wishes,

Andrew

The upturned boats on Lindisfarne are indeed a focal point for both artists and photographers. I like the treatment you've given this one, it looks like the sort of image some of the painters acheive.

Many thanks to you all for your kind comments.
This was one of those shots that gave me great pleasure in the taking - having seen some of the paintings previously it was something I felt was a 'must shoot' !
I took a while selecting the PoV to get a 'clean' view of the boat hulls whilst still keeping the old anchor in a prominent foreground position and also including the coil of ropes - I even toyed with the alternative title 'At the sign of the Rope & Anchor' but thought that a too English joke !
In general I'm not a fan of 'messed about' images but I felt this one could take the 'art' effect. I was very pleased by the result and am delighted that it has met with approval from my peers.
If you ever get the chance to visit the Northumbrian coast keep your eyes open !

Thanks again
Peter
