Two of the static (suspended) exhibits in the main hall of the Imperial War Museum, London. The original photograph has been edited to remove the suspension cables and background which, IMHO, detracted from the paradoxical grace and beauty of these two 'killing machines'. The aircraft shown are a North American P-51D Mustang and a Focke-Wulf FW 190 A-8. K20D with DA 16-45mm f/4. Best viewed large. The original photograph can be viewed here link

perfectly done - yes I know his feeling - these are killing machines but they are also impressive... Could be a photo for the box of a combat flight simulator software package.... great graphic appearance

Great viewed large. I often go to the Museum in Manchester that houses simular planes, great shot, I can never manage to get rid of the wires. Best wishes Trixie

That's an eye catching shot. If you could blur the props just a bit, the image would be even better.

Like it, good editing. BTW, 'Big Beautiful Doll' (P51) crashed last year at Duxford's Flying Legends airshow after being involved in a collision with a Skyraider during the finale, obviously not the static one in your shot. The pilot /owner baled out safely but BBD went in vertical. The Skyraider landed with 5ft of one wingtip missing.

Thank you all so much for your positive comments, which have definitely left me feeling that my time and effort was not wasted 
I agree sam-joseph, but, with my limited understanding and skills set, I was unable to achieve the desired effect without compromising the overall integrity of the image
Thank you for saying so, David. The 'final product' definitely grew out of a desire to recreate the mental image created when I first viewed the original capture on screen and not serendipitously as a consequence of idle tinkering
