Very nice. Sometimes you can lose the smoke against grey skies, but this is well defined and stands out great.
Cheers.

Great image John, lovely composition & perspective. Reminds me of those steam train paintings by Terence Cuneo with his little trademark mouse painted somewhere in the scene.

However I couldn't at first think what was missing from your steam train image/s (not a mouse!) that would place them quite definately in their particular era but finally it clicked....it's those old telegraph lines with the rows of porcelain insulators, I remember many telegraph poles had the wooden ball with spike on top too.

That 8F gets around John. I saw it a while ago storming through Kirkby Stephen at a much faster rate of knots than was usual for a freight engine.
Yours is a nice moody picture and as has already been said, you've maintained good sky detail.

A powerful capture. I particularly like the composition in which you have taken account of the drift of the steam.

Thanks guys, she certainly gets around. It was a bitterly cold morning with strong wind, I was fortunate that a line of trees were keeping the steam off the lower part of the train, I just had to get low for the shot.
