Two upside down flies

This picture is the correct way up. Both flies wings were hanging down in this peculiar fashion, no idea why, a question for guru Charlotte I think. Also they appear to be covered in some crystalline substance, very odd.

That's a great shot Steve. I think the substance they are covered in may be pollen?

Hi David, I don't think it is pollen they are more like crystals than pollen.
BTW What is a Sigma 70-100 DG APO I've never met one?

Fantastic shot Steve,

I've never seen them with their wings in that position before. Very odd and the top one looks like it's well coated in whatever it is. It doesn't look like pollen does it.
