Very nice place Mac...looks idyllic. What kind of wildlife do you get there?

Going off the height of your mast I assume you're in a bit of a dip there?

Even with that mast = 1 channel.

By a lake in a valley in the Laurentian mountains etc.

Wildlife - everything except kodiak bears and salmon.

Moose, deer, brown and black bear, wolves, fox, trout in the streams, bass in the lake, beaver and loons (of course), otters, skunks, racoons and politicians (can't escape them).

There is still ice on the lake!

You're blessed to live in such a beautiful place Mac, i would sit on one of those seats and just wait for the wildlife to pop out from somewhere ... only downside .. one channel!!!

That's great Mac...what a beautiful location. And hey...one channel's
all you really need! We've got 50+ channels and often find there's
nothing worth watching once you've weeded out the repeats and endless adverts and shopping channels.

Looking at your equipment list, with all that wildlife about have you nothing longer than a 200mm?

Interesting image of a great looking backyard- the tree bark on left frames it nicely.-Saw my first moose emerging from a lake in the backyard of a rented cabin in the Laurentians 40 years ago - scared the daylights out of me. Didn't know huge animals like that really lived in the woods (from brooklyn, ny) beautiful spot you have there- I could live there provided the starbucks was nearby and the 1 channel was the Baseball channel. thanks , tg

Karlo, thanks to you as well. Agree about TV. Only watch the news when I can stand to. Watching a fire is much more relaxing and no ads.

I have a screw mount 500mm Russian tank of a mirror lens with a converter ring, but it's almost impossible to use for wildlife. The fixed F4 DOF is insane and I don't like the bokeh at all.

Gotta git me one o them 300's! When I win the lottery. I'll have it delivered to you, and you can bring it up when you come to visit.

Yes, moose are pretty impressive.

Saw my first right at this very cottage when I was 14 years old - antlers tangled in our clothesline. Needless to say he wasn't happy!

Thanks Mac, that sounds great. About 9-10 years ago I did spend a few weeks online looking at Canadian property...when there was just over 2 Canadian dollars to the £. Couldn't believe what you could get for the money...particularly liked Nova Scotia.

Only problem I have now is that i've upset the US government so many times with online criticism..I suspect i'm on their 'No Fly' list and wouldn't therefore be able to get into Canada either! Such is life...but if there was a major change over there politically..well who knows...

In the meantime when you're out and about and get the opportunity to photograph some indigenous wildlife i'm sure we'd all love to see some piccies. Keep your eyes open for a Tamron 70-300 second hand..they go for buttons and will definitely bring the wildlife so much closer.

Glad to hear you're considering a Tamron 70-300..I honestly don't think you'll be disappointed..it's got a half decent macro as well for
those times when you don't want to be carting all the tubes and stuff about.
