Just for a change, it isn't a bee!

It's a supposedly common (?) club horned sawfly, Abia Sericea. It's so common I had to look it up. It's a most startling, iridescent beast that is quite harmless despite its appearance.

And it is BIG and quite noisy, too..... had one here and had a dipterist [but with wide knowledge] to ID it on the spot with... "You've got to photograph that... they are quite rare!!"

I've never seen one, before or since. On the other hand, there are any number of images available, should you search under the Latin name (but first, you need to discover that name and it took me a long time !!).
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
