Merddin Emrys at Tangrisiau

by davidtrout

Living heritage - one of the famous Great Little Railways of Wales, perhaps the greatest, is the Ffestiniog. Here hard working double ended Fairley engine Merddin Emrys, named after a Welsh bard, sweeps round a curve into Tanigrisiau with a back drop of the Moelwyn hills. ME was built in 1877 to work on the steep inclines and tight curves of the former slate carrying railway, now a major tourist attraction. The engine has had several major rebuilds, the last one between 1996 and 2005.
