Classic Car - MG TD Midget

by MikeInDevon

Irene took a shine to this special car.

We came across this car and many others, quite by accident in Otterton. A group of enthusiasts happened to have a ‘pit-stop’ at the local pub we were having our lunch in, we didn’t realise that until we went outside. There was a host of rare cars of various ages, this was the first one we saw!

I think it’s a 1950 MG TD

My Dad had one of them MikeinDevon in the late 1950s, I kid you not.
Racing green with brown leather straps for the bonnet
He was back from shell oil, tankers all over the world and was getting married and then never returned to the oceans.
He sold it before the wedding for 350 quid. I wasn't born yet nor was my older brothers but I know he loved it, God rest him.
I edited because I forgot to thank you.

Thanks guys! I'm happy that it prompted a happy memories, photo are great for this!

I remember a story from my long gone Father, I think he had a little sporty job, probably a Midget, this was well before 1950, on his way back home to Mold he was being harried by a driver behind him. He knew the road like the back of his hand, on a tight turn he took it at ‘the limit’, he didn’t see the other driver again! In those days there wasn’t a driving test, neither of my parents every had to take a driving test, hard to imagine nowadays but in those days the number of cars on the road was tiny.

Mike, even in the early 70s with oil crisis and all, I remember the drives in the countryside roads on holidays and the car (Ford Cortina Mk iii) would be covered in flies from bumper to windscreen and stops for petrol and water for the washer

I always loved TCs and TDs and in later years the B and B GT. I vowed that I would be the owner of any one of them at some date but it never happened. And when the wife said one day that a 944 was not a family car my fate was sealed! I'll tell you the 911 story one day!
Love this very simple shot!

Ha, I used to get a lift to college from a guy who had a BGT hardtop, nice car, rather cramped in the back. I believe it had two 6V batteries in series, one each side under the back seats, best not to short one out!

Happy days!

Cheers
Mike
