Canal Street Lock, Rochdale Canal, Manchester

Photo Information
There was a time when it looked as though the Rochdale canal would be lost forever. Then some hardy individuals decided to try and navigate a boat through, just before it became classed as disused. They did get the boat through, including dragging it over some dry bits and as a consequence the canal could not be legally closed. renovation followed and an eyesore became an amenity. This is Canal Street lock, looking little different to when I first shot it in the early 1970s. The only difference is that the first time the shot was on a Rolleiflex 3.5F twin lens reflex and this time on a Pentax Q-S1. The technology has changed, but the location is timeless.
