A bird in the hand....

Half a metaphor now used idiomatically to mean stick with what you've got....

This was a stunned kingfisher [glanced off the window] that I rescued and cuddled until it seemed ready to release.... this picture was taken microseconds before it flew of in a fast, straight line for our orchard area and the millstream beyond.
