Hello forum,
I've fallen in love with a Zeiss Otus 55mm 1.4 full-frame. It comes with either Canon or Nikon mount.
Does anyone here have any experience with using an adoptor from Nikon mount to Pentax mount with a Pentax K1 camera?
Does an adaptor mean that aperture will function automatically?
And, lastly, will the adaptor affect the focal length and/or the minimum focusing distance (49cm)?
Thanks!

You could look into one of these adapters:- link
I doubt though that it would provide for auto focus or auto anything for that matter so you might well have to be satisfied with manual operations only. Still, at least you should (I think) get to use the Zeiss Otis on the K1. Me thinks you will need to do some research though!
Good luck.

You say it comes with either Canon or Nikon mount? This suggests that the lens is already being 'adapted' to one or other of these systems. What was the native mount prior to this and would that make a better starting point? Once you adapt A to B to C and so on it can end up in a mess.

I reviewed the Otus in January 2016, here: https://www.ephotozine.com/article/zeiss-otus-55mm-f-1-4-lens-review-28738
It's a manual focus lens, but only available in Nikon F and Canon EF mounts.
Very nearly as good, AF and a much lower price is the HD Pentax-F DA* 50mm f/1.4 which I think would serve a lot better on the K1.
Hope that helps!

Thank you for the reply & link, appreciated! It definitely needs more research before buying! I'm just at the spur-of-the-moment stage now
Ideally someone in this forum had first-hand experiences with this lens - or something quite a similar. But I guess it's a rare combination - and chosing a 'native-format' lens is best practice, I guess.

I'm not sure I understand your question correctly, but there's only two mount types for it - one for Canon and one for Nikon. There's not 'third' lens that's been adapted to these mount types (to my knowledge). So it would be and A - > adator, not an A -> B -> C one.

You may have fallen in love with the Otus but have you tried the Pentax DFA*50/1.4 ?
As John Riley points out it may be a better lens for use on the K1, and there are one or two around on the second hand market at quite reasonable prices (compared to list price). I haven't tried the Otus but the Pentax is the pinnacle of "standard" lenses for me

Thank you for your reply - and the link to your review. I think I came across through Google.
Why do you think the DA*50mm would work better on the K1? General brand synergy? Same or higher quality of the glass and other materials? Lack of auto-focus in the Zeiss?
Thansk again

The Pentax lens gives you AF and better handling on the K-1. It is also a superb lens.
The Zeiss costs nearly four times as much and isn't made in Pentax fit, so any adapter is bound to be more clunky than no adapter, even if one is available. Also, do you porefer manual focus? If not, there's no debate really.

Good points! It's taken a while to get used to, but I do prefer manual focus.
