As the title says, I hoping some of you have this lens and a tc. With so many different tc which would work best with this lens. Examples of shots with and without would really help.

I use the Pentax 1.4 HD TC and it is excellent. Tack sharp and AF is not compromised.

Is there a 1.7 tc that's worth looking at or does the iq suffer ?

I have used a recently acquired Kenko Teleplus DG 1.4X MC4 with mine & neither the iq or focusing seem to suffer much, I'd say it was still a touch better (and faster) than the Pentax 55-300mm, though I've not done any direct comparisons. I'd be interested to know what it's like with a 2X TC.

Agree with the 1.4x HD Pentax. It relays the focal length and multiplies it by 1.4 so as to keep the Shake Reduction correct! It also correctly transfers the aperture and scales; so f2.8 becomes f4 in the EXIF data. AF still works well but can be a bit more intermittent. The combo still gives sharp images

Or would the 50-500mm ex be a better option. I don't shoot wide open, usually about f8.

I loved my 50-500mm OS ... only reason I sold it was because I bought the 150-450mm and I still wonder sometimes if I should of kept the Sigma.
No equipment list here but thanks for taking an interest. My Flickr

Hi Mike, i knew you had one and really rated it highly, but on closer examination the one i was looking at is an older version than the os version. Sigma 50-500 F4-6.3 APO RF is the one i had seen and the fella seemed to be up for some sort of trade against the tamron 70-200mm.
From what little i could find out about this version leads me to want to avoid it.
Pity as the reach and Iq from the os hsm one seems pretty damn impressive.

For all round (IQ and Functionality) the Pentax HD-1.4x WR can't be beat. The Tamron 1.4x isn't far off the same level of IQ without the focal length carry through - but at under half the price

Are there any 1.7 that are worth looking at or does iq just drop too much ?

This is a quick grab on the way out of work with the Tamron and Pentax 1.4x HD TC. 280mm f5.6 1/160 ISO 200 hand held on my K-3
Run it through Lightroom quickly, uncropped. If you want the original RAW let me know.

The old Pentax 1.7x AF Adapter is very good and the image is quite a bit bigger than the 1.4x.

The correct aperture is shown, but you have to manually input the focal length.

I'm not sure how it works with the Tamron.

You're right Algi the old AF 1.7 TC is very good but is blown away by the new 1.4 HD TC. I had both for a while to compare and sold the 1.7 as it would never get used again if kept.
