I bought a brand new DJI Mavic Air and excitedly opened everything up, followed the instructions and had it ready to go within a few hours. Then came the part where the drone speaks to DJI's servers in order to complete activation...
...
Error.
Apparently this error is thrown out when a drone is lost or stolen. Funny because I bought it from a major UK electronics retailer, and these come directly from DJI themselves.
The source of the issue is due to a failure on DJI's part to register the serials of this batch of drones. When the drone phones home to initialise itself, it gets told that its serial doesn't exist (or something along those lines). The poor little droney then commits software suicide and refuses to activate.
The only solution: Return the unit to DJI or the retailer.

I have finally scratched a long-suffering itch and ordered a 77mm Limited. I was hanging on for the new 85mm but have decided I cannot justify the expense, also it looks pretty hefty and I am getting some primes as lightweight alternatives to the F2.8 zooms.
At present I have the recent 35mm f1.8 and 50mm F2.8 macro, both of which give excellent results but I am wondering whether the nearly equivalent FF Limiteds 31mm and 43mm would be worth exchanging for, as my OCD mind thinks it would be nice to make the set!

Not an acquisition, sent off my Nikon D500 and Sigma 500mm f/4 Sport to MPB today, the Nikon 105mm macro, 16-80mm and Sigma 1.4x and 2x extenders will be going on Ebay this week.
My fling with Nikon is over.
Care to explain why? Do you prefer the Pentax or is there another range you are looking at?

I have always prefered my Pentax gear in everything bar AF tracking and to be honest I can't see the D500 being of any use for the next 12 months as there are not likely to be any airshows and suchlike needing the Nikon. Care to explain why? Do you prefer the Pentax or is there another range you are looking at?
It was also a lot of money tied up that I could make better use of elsewhere.

Mike, the forthcoming new APS-C camera promises improved autofocus so that might prove interesting. Don't spend all the money yet!

I can't imagine that the 31mm isn't significantly better than either of those 35mm lenses, possibly in sharpness and contrast and certainly in rendering. As for the 43mm, it's the only FA Limited I have and it's a very different animal from my A 50mm f/2.8. The focal lengths are similar and they're both great but the 43mm renders much nicer and isn't good for close focus, while the 50/2.8 is very, very sharp but rendering is very different, not as smooth.

Sorry Jonathan, it is the HD FA 35mm f2.0. The only comparisons I can find after a quick browse are with the older version where flare was an issue but the latest one has the coating to deal with that. There was also discussion about the difference between six and nine aperture blades giving better bokeh on the 31mm, but that on it's own wouldn't justify to me nearly 3x the price. The build quality is another matter which would be the icing on the cake and would tip the scales for a closer price difference but I am more interested in actual performance.
