What is the situation regarding Ricoh cameras and PentaxUser?

I was pondering what the rules/ feelings are regarding sharing images on this site and entering competitions that have been captured with Ricoh branded cameras?

We're embracing Ricoh cameras too with it being the current owner of Pentax. In order to keep the site active every little helps, there's a few members uploading using GRs already and some of the Waterproof/Tough are mixed in branding, it'll be fine.

While we're on the subject, what's the general consensus about adapted lenses, for example lets say a Pentax-M being adapted on a Fujifilm/Olympus/Panasonic/Sony camera, is that a step too far?

Just putting the feelers out.

We embraced Samsung when they were selling the GX range, and let's not forget that if it wasn't for Sony who would supply the sensors for our cameras? As long as folk are open about what they use then I am all for it.

I think encouraging Pentax lens use on mirrorless is a great thing. The film and second hand market do more to keep the brand alive in hearts and minds than the current offerings from Ricoh Pentax.

Thank you, that's a positive and great way of looking at it.

Thanks, we're looking to promote the site in the near future and adapted (vintage) lenses is something I've had in mind for a while, my personal opinion is as long as there's one Pentax/Ricoh element (camera or lens) being used in the set up, I feel it could be a positive for the site and a way of attracting additional users.

I think a few years ago the moderation on here was more strictly applied...fair enough...however lets be honest, the site is struggling to maintain momentum going forward due to much slower Pentax product release and an aging user base not being replaced by younger people who are more likely to user phones exclusively or mirrorless.

I'm all for it...as long as either the camera body or lens are Pentax/Ricoh connected.

I should imagine without a bit more input to the site it will end up being shut down and we all get migrated to the main ephotozine site if not already on there.

I personally would not have a problem with Pentax lenses mounted on other manufactures camera bodies displaying on this site, as vice versa already exists .
Others perhaps might be more rigid on this being permitted .
Great topic for discussion.

Maybe a poll could help
A possible new dawn awaits.

Agreed. In fact, I think that camera technology has got to the point where any current(-ish) generation camera from any manufacturer can take a good image, it's the lens that really makes the difference (plus the photographer, of course ).

Have you thought about finding a sponsor who will donate a roll of film per month for a 'Film picture of the Month' competition? Catch the growing wave of youthful enthusiasm for film, recognition for those who have taken the plunge and bought a Pentax 17 etc. etc.

It all sounds very positive to me, there are so many great Pentax lenses out there and they can be used on a variety of mirrorless bodies. My opinion is It's no different to a Pentax lens being used on a Zenith or Praktica film body.
Best regards, John

My concern would be you'd get posts from all and sundry rather than the Pentax passionate. That might change the friendly nature of the forum, but maybe that's what it needs to keep it going.

Other forums can be friendly, too . And even this forum has lost some members because of what other people have posted.

It would be sensible, though, to put discussion of Pentax lenses on non-Pentax bodies in a different section. And to have reasonable rules to keep discussion to Pentax lenses only rather than letting discussion degenerate into "Brand X's lens is better than Pentax", "Oh no it isn't", "Oh yes it is". Even this forum has some of that at times, although it does usually seem to fizzle out quite quickly.

I moved from my main camera system being Pentax to Panasonic (S5) a couple of years ago and have refrained from posting anything from the S5 even when using it with Pentax lenses (which I do often). I still own and use my K-3 and Pentax film cameras so I'm very much a Pentaxian and still hang around here for news, chats and classifieds. I'm happy with whatever is decided but FF mirrorless has opened the door to Pentax lenses for a great many people who might contribute here and there are some FFM users who use nothing but adapted manual lenses. Sometimes I'm amazed that the prices of used Pentax lenses haven't gone up with all the FFM users.
