WANTED -- a SB-4 AC Mains adapter for VIVITAR 283 -- also i have the 'Made in Japan' ones dated 1978 and 1979 -- do you think these are the 'High Trigger Voltage ones' ?
been a member of Pentax Club since the Ron Spillman era! Got COMPUTERISED at last - DIGITISED? Taken the PLUNGE - BUT FILM STILL RULES !!!

I may have one lurking in a drawer along with my 283 flash, filters, off hotshoe lead etc etc.

Let me know if you still need it in a week or so.

K-S2 and suffering from a relapse and so now buying digital camera kit - started with a little Lumix TZ80 and now LBA has re-occured for my K-S2. Not sure where it will lead!
Previous addiction has resulted in using Zeniths, Yashicamat, Chinons, Minoltas, Samsungs, Fujis, Cosina, Lumix, Canon, Nikon and Pentax etc etc - have tried most makes in the past 40 years. Love cameras - love taking photos even more

I have a bit of a collection of Vivitar 283's. From my own observations, I would say that your older Made in Japan items will be the original high voltage ones. Lower voltage ones came along around 1990 (I would estimate).
The only way to be sure is to switch the unit on and measure the voltage on the hot shoe contacts. Use a digital or other high impedance meter as the circuit is loaded down by moving coil instruments thus giving a false (low) reading.
Original ones measure 270 volts or thereabouts whereas later low voltage ones measure around 8 - 10 volts.
Visual clues for low voltage types include those labelled as made in Korea or China, or bearing a CE mark, or having a self adhesive paper red dot on the rear of the sliding battery compartment door.

YES please -- if you CAN find that AC adapter I can give it a good home - I have 2 Vivitar 283 and having been gIven a MIN T one with the Filter Holder, Filter and Lens kits want to use them for my Demonstration at Brentwood & District Photographic Club.ONE of the 283 has a broken hot-Shoe fitting s cannot be fitted into camera or a slave unit Let me know if you find and any Fees etc -- Many Thanks

Made in Hong Kong with 2 pin Euro plug - not 3 pin UK one.
