Users of JJC straps beware!

A while back I bought a JJC shoulder strap (the sort that's like a Black Rapid or Sun Sniper) where the camera is attached via the tripod mount. I liked it so much that I bought another one, so now one is on the K5 and one on the K7.

It can stay on the body even on a tripod, but today I took it off in order to do something to the camera. And I noticed this:

The crack is on both sides, so only the rubber part is holding it together.

Yesterday I'd been hanging the K7 plus Tamron 17-50 off it

I checked the one on the K5 and it also has a crack, but much smaller.

I do like the JJC straps, so now I want to replace the tripod mount connector with the one that comes with a Sun Sniper 'Steel and Bear'. Except they are nearly £30 and I can't seem to find any for sale

Thanks. Unfortunately Sun Sniper won't ship to the UK, it has to be purchased from their UK distributor 'The Flash Centre': http://www.theflashcentre.com/sun-sniper-camera-bearing-screw-i7322.html

No stock, and they haven't replied to my query. Nearly £30 with p&p

I'd offer to buy it from Germany for you but their P&P prices (€9.90) mean it would be more expensive than getting it from the flash centre.

I am using a Q Strap sling strap. It uses a metal baseplate and they can be purchased seperately.

I have been using it for a while now and am very happy with it.

That would fit the carabiner that runs on the JJC strap, so another option. It looks pretty much like the one on the later JJC straps. In some ways I'd prefer to put the strap through the Sun Sniper mount, no metal/metal rattling then. But there's the cost to consider...

I don't notice any metal on metal rattling with the L plate. Won't it be the same with the Sun Sniper fixing? It is a metal ring that you're connecting the strap's karabiner to.

No, with the Sun Sniper one the strap material goes through the flat ring on the fixing, so no carabiner required.

I ordered the L-plate mentioned above, but what arrived was a round fixing with a non-rotating semi-circular ring. So I'm not yet equipped...
