To beep or not to beep?

I've very recently acquired a new K3iii.
Today I went out for the first time to try to do some serious bird photography.
Although I generally do not use the autofocus achieved 'beep' when in the proximity of birds, I do find it useful when further away.
Anyway I could not get any beep with the autofocus, irrespective of what lens was being used.
The camera is set up properly and will beep, for example, when the A-EL button is pressed etc etc, but not when either the AF button or shutter button is used to focus.
Interestingly, when using live view rather than the viewfinder, it beeps away to its' hearts content.
SRS are trying to establish if this is a feature of the camera.
I find it illogical for it to work in live view and not with the viewfinder.

Does anyone have any thoughts or possible explanation?
Are all K3iii's the same?

Interestingly enough, SRS said their demo K3iii beeped in live view, but not when viewfinder was used!
My original K3 beeps when viewfinder used.

Mike - well spotted.
I was using AF-C, when I switch to AF-S the beep functions.
That’s an explanation, but I still find it disappointing (and illogical) that it’s not available when using the viewfinder.

Of course had you kept the A9 you wouldn't need the bleep to tell you when you had lock on because it just does it

How did you find the 150-450mm on the K3 III?

You’re right about the Sony !
On reasonably static subjects, so far it’s super. Sharp as a tack and quick focusing.
I’ve yet to try it seriously on BIF - I’ll let you know when I do.
The body lens combo looks very promising.
