Deffo K-r, if you can't stretch to the K-5

K10d's come up a lot but you can't go wrong with a Kr or even Kx. It would be well worth the extra.

I'm not a great photographer but all my pictures in my portfolio are taken with a k-r - so until a more experienced photographer comes along these might give you a bit of an idea;

I really like my k-r

Kind regards

It doesn't really come down to image quality when chosing a DSLR, it's more down to handling i believe.
Just go to a store and try it out i would say, if you like it in your hands then buy it of not then look for a Kx maybe or a K7.

Maybe you could rent one from SRS for a couple of days and try it for your self?

That's a tough one then.

The Kr is a fine camera though but if you don't need the high ISO performance then the K7 is also a fine camera which give you more manual control, better viewfinder and build quality.
So it depends on what you want and need.

I have the K-7 and I'm advising you to go for the K-r. If you don't need it to be water resistant then the K-r opens up a whole new avenue in low light photography because of its high ISO capabilities. The K-7 is a fine camera but has very high noise anywhere above 400 ISO.
The K-r will also let you get the most out of any lens that is not so fast because you can ramp up the ISO and then have much higher shutter speeds, ideal for wildlife shots.

The K-x ain't to shabby either in the high ISO dept So much so that the K-5, whilst undoubtedly better, hasn't blown me away in that dept following my K-x to K-5 upgrade

The K-r, like the K-5 smokes the K7 at ALL ISOs

click on measurements then dynamic range

Advising that the k-r and k-5 aren't needed/useful if you don't want high ISO performance is very misleading. Naughty Stefan
