There's never been a better time to buy......

A perusal of E Bay this morning reveals a number of 55-300s and the odd 35mm 2.4 appearing as Buy it Nows that are brand new. I wonder why?!

The reason that we rushed to buy was the remarkable discount. However, things are more difficult to sell presently. I really struggled to sell a Pentax 16-45 on E Bay. Some of the current asking prices for Amazon resales look rather optimistic.

Well I got one to use it unfortunately it neccesitates the rapid sale of my fa 50mm which might not be so easy!(as you rightly point out)

There's nothing wrong with turning a quick profit from a bargain. But the price should reflect the fact the (presumably) there is no warranty - not quite brand new, rather it should be described 'as new condition'.

I've ordered both the 35mm (arrived) and 50mm (to come in January) to see which I prefer to team up with the 21mm as I now travel light and take mostly snaps. Might keep them both, but expect to sell one at a market rate and hopefully use any upside to cover costs of the other. As the Dr. mentions, one should be honest although I am toying with the idea of offering a 3 month warranty.

I don't think the warranty will be transferrable.

But if you are selling new items for a profit it makes you, by default, a trader and you must offer a UK warranty. And pay tax, of course!

If you described the item as 'second hand' (even brand new in a sealed box) and only do it occasionally then you are probably OK, providing you didn't buy the item with the express purpose of selling it.

As I said I will be honest and describe it used-as-new. I'm not thinking about transferring the warranty (a mistake lots of people make when they describe an item as still being in warranty), but offering my own. In which case I would simply return to Amazon under their warranty and send back to my buyer once fixed. Need to check though as selling it on might void my warranty.

If Amazon find out - but how would they unless you tell them?
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

They may have to keep them for a few months but in the end they will go for good money. A lot of people don't use forums and in time people forget about such deals.

Good luck to them I say. I ordered 5 x 55-300mm lenses and then cancelled them at the last moment. Have regretted doing so ever since.

One of them went for £238 plus £12 shipping (and no I was not the seller).

Perhaps I should delete this post for Mike's health!

I haven't regretted ordering my five! Three arrived today and two more should come on Monday. Any chance of making a buck has to be taken.

Why am I suddenly uncomfortable with being a Pentaxian?

No idea, I'm sure there are Canon and Nikon users that suppliment their hobby by doing such things so it shouldn't make any difference you being a Pentax user.
