The Physalis harvest (not a phrase you want to get wrong)

Picked the majority of the Physalis fruits today (aka Cape Gooseberries or Sunberries or Ground Cherries) - a gorgeous, intense small fruit rather like a tomato in texture but with a sharp then mellowing burst of flavour as you consume it. I'd only ever really seen these placed delicately on the top of a dessert in fancy(ish) restaurants, but purchased 3 plants earlier in the year and have watched the grow and flourish.

Nice fruit, nice photos .

And proof (yet again) that LennyBloke's garden is designed around the needs of photography .

They are exceptionally photogenic !

Thanks both - they are a lovely fruit both to grow and eat. The real trick now is to try to over-winter the plants and protect them from the frosts without a greenhouse

There isn't a lot of design to my garden Steve, apart from finding a cheap plant or two every now and then to add some interest. My biggest pleasure is the Veg patch, I still get the childhood excitement when I see things I've planted coming through in the spring

All good, but the first one stands out for me - well composed and spot-on lighting!

Nicely done with great lighting.

I enjoy the cape gooseberries mixed with other fruit: the surprise they provide to the pallete adds to the flavours.

I didn't know they could be grown in our climate - I always assumed they needed sub-tropical conditions.

I hope they tasted as good as they look.
Nigel.

Getting older and grumpier. Taking longer to decide which lens to use today.

A collection of manual primes to keep me in touch with the pleasures of doing it old-school.
