The Future of K5 Prices

The camera in my bag will be my K20D for a long while yet. The K-5 is enticing and I am tempted by the thought of shooting video with a DSLR, but I'm not putting enough time into the hobby these days to justify the expense.
Perhaps when the K-5's replacement comes I'll look at it again

Check out the amount of data you create when doing HD... we did well over 100GB yesterday with 2 cams and a four-hour event. And we didn't cover half of it!

Or a sign that they haven't finished cleaning the sensors on the previous production run that's a sign that K5s are in great demand.
I'm not that desperate to buy a K5 - though the high ISO capability would be nice. For one thing, my K20D is still as cracking as it was when I bought it and my photographic skills have yet to catch up. For another, my long-term saving/purchasing plan is geared towards the FA77 rather than another body.

See SRS have put their prices up today
£999 for body only from £975 (was just under £900 when you took the cashback into consideration)
There is not a chance I'm going to pay more than the cashback price.

I've been hovering, with a bookmark for Camera Price Buster... I didn't start looking until just after the cashback finished or I would have gone for it back then
I want to replace my GX10, so now I'm just waiting for the price to fall a bit. I *need* LiveView, tethering (via PK Remote)and the ISO improvements.
900 is the trigger point for me.

The K20D's never fell back to the Cashback price once it ended. If anything they went up

Same here! 6months and we'll see. Under the £900 would make me look for my wallet.... the nearer to £850 the more irresistable it becomes!

Now the cashback has ended demand is likely to slow, my guess is prices will start to move downwards once that gets through to the Pentax sales dept - hope so anyway as I'll be buying in the next few months!!

Don't think you need a new camera Simon - lovely images! (and a nice reminder at the moment that in the UK the sun DOES shine occassionally!!!)

It is hardly surprising there is a shortage of K-5s as Pentax has had to replace a lot of cameras and are still doing so. They may also have had to withdraw a lot of cameras from the early batch with the sensor stains.
Presumably a lot of the returned and withdrawn cameras will eventually be fitted with new sensors and sold - ? as refurbished. There might be some bargains then.

Yeah, but if they do that they can keep the "new" price higher for longer, as the bargain hunters will be satisfied through that channel......
