Hi all, help me make my mind up, its new lens time I am looking at these two, I like the tamron because its a bit of a wide angle lense and also the long ended bit is what I want, but is it any better then the pentax would like your feed back please

The Pentax lens is an excellent one.

I've no experience of the Tamron, but I would say that 28mm is not particularly wide angle, being a 35mm-equivalent of 42mm, a "wide standard".
Best regards, John

I've got both. The Tamron was the best 300 I'd ever had... 'til I got the 55-300. Not quite wide enough for a true walkaround, and it's a heavy old thing too.

I've got Pentax 55-300, .. this an excellent lens and pretty versatile. I have no experience with Tamron 28-300 but imaging resource test results are not tender with it : http://slrgear.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/50/cat/23

I used one of the earlier models many years ago and, when I had Nikons I tried out the later version which a friend had [the lens creep if you held it face down was incredible]. Given the choice of the two I would definitely recommend the 55-300 - just downloaded some pictures taken with mine today and, as usual, it never fails to surprise at just how good it is for the price.

I have a Tamron 28-300 and would not recommend it. Very loud sounds on focussing and image quality is not great. In fact i`m toying with either the Pentax 18-135 or 18-270.
