Tamron 18-200 vs Pentax 18-135?

Finally ordered my new K5 from SRS, after much agonising. The lens that has been most often on my K100D is the Tamron 28-200, but I often wish it was 18 rather than 28. If I'm not that interested in the 135-200 area, and I'm more often in the 18-90 area, are there any views on the respective merits of Tamron 18-200 vs Pentax 18-135? Thanks as always for your wise comments.

Did you order a lens with the K-5?

You might want to consider the Pentax/Tamron 18-250mm as well. You can't get one new any longer, except maybe from overseas, but it consistently receives better reviews than the 18-200mm.

I have the 18-250mm and have been impressed so far.

It's a good lens, I was concerned that buying a lens with the body would have been a much better deal than covering it afterwards.

Just the cheap kit 18-55. My original one is showing it's age, and I can't afford the K5+18-135 set right now.

That's a shame. If I was buying now I'd go for the 18-135mm option, but at least the 18-55mm WR is also a WR lens, so that is pretty useful in itself.

I could do that Chris, but just at this moment the purchase would be unwelcome on top of all the mundane costs of life. Car insurance, property insurance and all the other costs that come annually hit around now.

Try to avoid moving house on 19th December, it has many inconveniences.

Unfortunately I don't need another lens.

Au contraire... when all those other costs are high, it's the ideal time to buy stuff you want.

It's such a small proportion of the total that it just disappears in the noise.

Hi, I bought a Tamron 18-200 lens and returned it as I found the performance too soft for me. I found Pentax 50-200 WR a great lens. With K-5 I would recommend a 18-135 WR or a 50-200 WR. These two lenses justify the K-5 WR body. Regards, Jeeess
