Take it on the chin

This character (Mark) in my local park was very relaxed about having his picture taken, but pulled this 'tough guy' face when I got the camera out.

Pentax K7 - Sigma 30mm @ f1.4

It looks kind of like he's holding the camera - honestly, this is not a self portrait!

Just a touch of attitude there. I reckon that Sigma 30mm is at the top of my 'want' list.

Interesting shot! Obviously there is a lot of attitude and expressiveness here. My immediate concern is the rather shallow DOF (if that is the correct techical term?), on my monitor at least. I would have preferred to have more of the face in focus.

Great portrait - unusual angle and great character in his face.

Mind you, I'd probably pull that expression if you were lurking under my chest like that...

I like the angle and shallow dof, but please tell me which park so I don't go alone

Thanks all. I just happened to have my new lens on me so wanted to see that the shallow DOF was like. Perhaps the focus should have been slightly further back or the DOF increased.

The guy was in a world of his own but quite amiable, and agreed to have his picture taken when he asked me for some 'change for a packet of crisps'.

Is that his Lawrence Fishburn pose

I like the shot. the angle, pose, dof etc

His expression could suggest that you may have eaten his crisps after paying for them

Certainly some attitude there! I like the DOF. I think a square crop might suit it better.

Did you tell him he had a bogey in his nostril?

In the scheme of things a bogey was the least of his concerns, aesthetically. He gleefully showed me a very raw looking weal on his back, which he told me was where he had been 'whipped'. I didn't press him as to how this had come about

Whatever, it must be a tough existence for people such as Mark, god knows what his life is really like.
