Every village in different cantons, start at different dates, but are all roughly about now. My village starts on Thursday..

Ah. Here it's mostly, but not exclusively south of the rivers that celebrate Carnaval but most Catholic towns and villages celebrate. Where we used to live was a Catholic village so celebrated, but the next door village was Protestant and didn't. Also the reason the royal palace was given to them not to the Catholic village!
Where we are now is all very Protestant, the Mennonites were founded just down the road, so no Carnaval here.
