Software problems with Pentax X-5?

Hi, I haven't introduced myself = Kim Hulme from N Cheshire, England. Starting with a Periflex in the late 50's and moving through with a Braun Paxette, a Practika , a Pentax MG, a Pentax ME Super and lastly a Fuji 7000, I now have a Pentax X-5 (second hand).... mainly for its tilt screen. It came with the Pentax S-SW129 disc and I downloaded the handbook off the internet. I'm impressed with the performance so far as coming to terms with new and its multi functions, although I don't want or need the photo processing facilities. I would also have preferred the bracketing function to be continuous (take 3, then 'store') rather than time-consuming three separate 'take' and 'store' . The problem I have is after downloading my photos to my computer. They go in a folder. I process them on an Arcsoft programme which I've had a long time and am used to. (came with my Fufi about 12 years ago) but i can't 'save as' to 'my pictures' or 'save' to that folder with a different file name. Sometimes it works but mostly I end up with just an icon which when I try to open messages that the file can't be opened as it may be unsupported, damaged or corrupted. Sometimes it work OK but in the main does not. Any Ideas why, please?
Thanks.

It might be that you are trying to save as a JPG file something that already has an extension of jpeg in its file name. So, have a look at its file name by right clicking, select rename, and see if you have a jpeg too many at the end. Just delete the extra extension out and all should be well.
Best regards, John

Why not contact Arcsoft at http://www.arcsoft.com/index.html and put the question to them. After all it's their software that's causing you problemsl. Maybe they have an update for it available?
Failing that try a different program.

Thanks John, I do save as a Jpeg, that's true. I have various format options to choose from and always click on Jpeg as the option. I'm on my laptop at the mo. Other stuff is on other PC. Can't understand why sometimes it works OK and not at others. Have read that there are probs with windows 8, This is windows 10.
