So what are you going to do RE: Ricoh purchase of Pentax

Just out of interest.

With the news of Ricoh buying Pentax will you still buy that new lens/body/accessory you were thinking of purchasing in the next couple of months or do you intend holding back until Oct 1st when hopefully there should be some concrete news on what is going to happen.

Personally I don't intend selling anymore than usual but that 100mm WR macro @ £500 has been shelved for the moment.

If I feel the need or desire then I will buy anything and everything required, before October. Thankfully I only have two lenses on my wishlist:

FA-31mm Ltd is the first, but I haven't the funds and the other is made by Tamron, but not in Pentax fitting at present.

I have no intention of buying a K-5 at the moment.

I've said no - but it has nothing to do with Ricoh. I just don't have any plans for any more purchases, major or minor for a long long time.

Of course if I win the lottery between now and then I will probably go on a spree regardless of what plans Ricoh may or may not have for Pentax.

I'm planning to buy somethings and the take over haven't changed that.

I have several purchases lined up for 2012 (17-50 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 100 2.8 Macro WR, and a K5). Depending on how Ricoh is going to play this, worst case scenario is I might jump ship.

BUT! I'm pretty optimistic that the purchase of Pentax by Ricoh is indeed a good thing for all of us!

I'm not sure, I've been looking for a new Pentax 16-45mm (not Samsung) which is discontinued anyway so it won't affect that if I find one.

I would expect some statements from Ricoh of their intentions well before Oct. 1st which seems a long time away for the handover of a company continuing to trade. Nothing to stop Hoya letting Pentax take on new management in the meantime.

From what i've read most of pentax will remain intact so i wonder if anything will change in the short run (2 years).

I would expect Ricoh, considering that they expect to expand very quickly to start planning what they will be designing and manufacturing from 1st Oct. within the next few weeks. Hoya on the other hand won't be planning for anything beyond 1st. Oct. so the two are going to have to work closely together in the meantime, possibly in a Pentax factory. There will also be a lot of visits to Pentax by Ricoh management.

It's slightly different, but normal practice with new buildings to allow the owner access before the handover date for planning, deliveries etc.

I voted no to the poll but purely because having just bought the K5 I have everything I need. Hopefully the Ricoh takeover will have more positive effects than the Hoya one. I suppose they may change the brand name but Ricoh doesn't have any standing in the DSLR market so maybe not.

I voted yes: I've been planning for a while to get an FA77 once I get a bunch of work-related stuff sorted out, and on reflection the announcement hasn't changed that. One reason is that I'm actually quite upbeat about the deal: Ricoh actually want the camera division, so that puts them one step above Hoya. The other reason is that I feel my camera kit will be essentially complete with the addition of an FA77, so I wouldn't necessarily need to jump ship in the unlikely event that Pentax's DSLRs aren't part of Ricoh's plans.

Ricoh got me started in SLR photography, the Ricoh XR-2 was my first SLR. I cannot see any harm in Pentax and Ricoh joining forces.

I cant see the takeover bringing about a price increase or a drastic shake up of the product line, Ricoh always seemed value to money to me and I think they will keep Pentax prices at their current level at least for the near future and may possibly even see an introduction of "budget" Ricoh brand DSLRs based on older Pentax models, as surely the tooling for producing them still exists.

I voted yes. I intend buying a Q and the standard prime and zoom lenses (If you're reading this Ricoh can we have a GR Lens for that system next please?).

Rightly or wrongly I'm generally more optimistic for Pentax's future under Ricoh than I was under Hoya, and that didn't stop me buying stuff. Buy what you want for today because you may get hit by a bus tomorrow.

I might be looking at the Q with keen interest, but no lens or body purchases are planned.

This has nothing to do with the purchase of pentax, which makes no difference to whatever I plan to do.
