So This is What All the Fuss is About

For years people moaned about Pentax not producing a decent compact camera. Well this one's not bad.
First few shots in our garden and along the coast on one fairly sunny May day.

First thoughts. I like: definition, colour, fast focusing, dynamic range, RAW capability, tilting screen, macro, lack of noise.
I don't like: weight, size (try finding a case that fits), no viewfinder, couldn't get a much nicer looking silver one at the target price.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Presume we are talking MX-1 ?

I have a lowepro and it fits quite nicely - doesn't say model number on it so can't tell you

Be wary if buying any non Pentax spare batteries - some claim to fit but don't click and stay in place. I bought two such and seller has asked me to take pics of ones he sent and one that does fit !!!

Today I got one that does fit and comes in a nice case too.

I'm loving the MX-1 - far surpassing my expectations

Nice images - the MX-1 definitely punches above its (considerable?!) weight and provides some of the best IQ I've seen from any compact. Hope you enjoy using it.

Love the Landie shot. I had an earlier TDi version for about 10 years and loved it.

Some very nice images, thanks. I'm still waiting for my MX-1 to arrive from UK and I'm itching to use it.

The size/weight problem doesn't bother me much, I like a camera to feel like a camera, not an empty fag packet.

Thanks for this, Mike. I was on the point of ordering an ebay cheapy battery (as I always do) but I'll hold fire. I might manage with just one anyway: I don't often take more than 250 shots a day!
Best wishes,

Andrew

Battery life is not the strong point of the MX-1, so a spare might be a good idea.

Thanks John. I'm taking it on holiday soon as my only camera (to save space and weight) so that may be an issue.
Best wishes,

Andrew

I love the weight of the MX-1, personally can't stand 'light' cameras either.
Neither do I like snug 'per-camera' cases. I keep mine in a messenger bag along with the Q and accs.
Yes and EVF might be nice, but who is buying an MX-1 without first knowing there isn't one, right!?

Nice set of photos, I think the last one of the couple sitting in front of the view caught my attention the most.

Very nice set! The MX-1 seems like a very flexible camera, and thus especially well suited for travelling. I might considered the MX-1 myself, they can be found also here for a good price.

Bjorn

I've had mine a pretty short while and already love it lots.. such a joy to use and the exposure comp dial is soooo useful.

I usually shoot mostly in manual , but with the comp dial I've been finding I shoot more in Av. Can't recommend it enough

Great images to compliment the MX-1 Andrew.

For any interested recent new MX-1 users, the auto lens cap, model JJC ALC-MX1, is a useful accessory - scroll down this page:

Cheers.

Thanks for the interest everyone and the advice Mike and Philip. I'll order the battery as the capacity seems to be an issue. I'd like to do without a lens cap but there's no way to fit a filter and that lovely lens looks awfully vulnerable.
Best wishes,

Andrew
