So I ended up at Whitby

I think the black and white shots stand apart for me, and clearly although the DS is quite an elderly model it is still a very capable tool (in the right hands ) - another set that reminds me it's a place I need to visit in the next year or two

Yes black and white for me.
Let's know when you're going to Whitby John, maybe we can arrange a Pentax meet

What LennyBloke says about the black and white - they stand apart for me as well. Excellent shots, especially the first one.
Be well, stay safe, but most of all, invest in memories

Nice! Hard to beat Whitby as a photogenic place and your B&W shots in particular stand out. If I may be so bold .... a 16x9 crop to the last one would turn that into a classic Whitby image too.

All comments appreciated.
The DS is indeed an elderly model, Sept 2004, these were with my * ist D, Feb 2003 so "more" elderly .
I bought it at Willoughby's, New York, in 2004.
The 16:9 crop proposal is spot on, thank you.
Just thought that I'd see out 2022 with my first DSLR. It's not fast, it needs a moment, its almost like shooting film as you lose the "slick & fast" functionality of a modern DSLR. Quite refreshing as you are actually more involved with the process. Almost like every frame counts (which when using film, it should).
Best regards

Looking at all those people, I think your missus had a good point. All these pictures make the same comment. "Sod the weather. We're going out!" Those under the harbour wall lights show the determination to enjoy it come what may particularly well.
As to the *IstD, I love using mine. As you say, the instant gratification isn't there and the clunkiness makes you work at what you are doing. Then you get that lovely, silky. "sssslick -chick" as the shutter releases.
Great stuff. Happy new Year!

So I took my *istD, 16-50mm and the 50-135mm.
I had to learn to wait for the AF to beep. Been a while since I used a slow DSLR. No worries though, more time to look through the viewfinder.
Whitby was actually very busy, car parks full and lots queuing for fish n chips. Stayed for two hours and can say it was worth the outing.
Four hours until the new year.....
Best regards
