So here is why I can no longer afford the 31mm/43mm/77mm

I have a couple of dumbells I could lend you Mike to enable you to train yourself ready for carrying it of course I need to look after the lens for you until you have built those biceps/triceps and shoulders up enough

Another massive jealousy call/admission
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

I'd love to see the faces of Canonistas if Danny and Mike turned up together somewhere with those .

Maybe you should arrange to meet up!

They would probably compare the size against their 400 f/2.8's, 500 & 600 f/4's or were you thinking that they may be envious? We are talking about a fabulous lens in the 250-600 but sadly it's not readily available and turns up once in a blue moon.

Best regards

Experience tells me Gary that yes, owners of 500 & 600 F4s are envious. Explaining the 250-600 zoom range, constant F5.6 and min focussing distance of less than 12ft gets them excited, especially when they have only just got a '280-560' f5.6 and it costs 12,000. Did you think they wouldn't be envious?

My one and only shot with it so far ... I always use this street lamp to test a lens, if it picks out the pattern on the plastic then I'm ok with the quality/sharpness.

600mm wide open @ f5.6 ... HAND-HELD

Uncropped, bit of contrast/sharpening added.

Silly me. They could jump ship to Pentax and buy a new 250-600mm where and for how much?

I doubt that you'll have any issues with this glass Mike. A Wimberly etc may be in order for the air shows?

Should anyone feel left behind: there appears to be another one up for sale in Sweden: http://www.nygaard.dinstudio.se/3/103/pentax-fa-250-600mm-f-156/

Works out as about 8500. After the matter of money it's only the transport to take care of

No they couldn't Gary, we all know that, hence the word 'envious'.

I know a professional wildlife photographer, who said to me, as the only Pentaxian on a course he gave, that the only reason he would buy a Pentax camera was if he could get hold of that lens.

He has since become a friend. He still mocks my Pentax, but grudgingly admits he likes Pentax cameras for a variety of reasons, not least that lens. I can't see him ever actually forking out the dosh for one in addition to all his other gear but stranger things have happened.
