SMC Pentax-FA 100mm F2.8 Macro Help
With the lens detached from the body, are you able to rotate the focussing ring?
If you hold the lens with bayonet closet to your body and the barrel markings facing up, you will see that there is a clamp mechanism on the RH side. Check that this is disengaged/off.
If you switch to manual focus on the camera body, are you able to focus with the lens?
Check and clean the contacts on the lens bayonet and camera mount, preferably with a lint-free cloth moistened (barely) with 70% (v/v) isopropyl alcohol (propan-2-ol) or, failing that, an alcohol wipe or Steri-Swab of the kind used to wipe the skin immediately prior to being given an injection. Allow to air-dry fully before re-mounting the lens and testing.
If possible, test the lenses screw-drive AF on another body.
Have you/are you currently experiencing AF problems with your K-3iii and any other lenses in your possession?
These checks should allow you to determine if the problem lies with the lens or the camera body. You would have to be very unlucky for it to be a problem with both.
K1000, Espio 140, ist, istD, K70, K3iii and numerous lenses, just don't tell my wife.
When I first used my 55-300 on my K3iii at the weekend it wouldn't auto focus, hunting badly, and on Auto and Av set the speed to 1/2000 resulting in dark images. It was ok in manual focus and correctly set the speed. As all other lenses were working fine I guessed it was the lens electrical contacts. Luckily I had a lens wipe with me, dismounted the lens and wiped both body and lens contacts. All ok afterwards, there was some dirt on the lens contact. Never had a problem with the K70 so it may be that the K3iii is more sensitive to dirty lens contacts.
